Sherry came to Astoria from Las Vegas, NV, seeking a small, community-oriented town to call home. It was apparent Sherry was a fit from the start, and she’ll tell you, “I was not sure what I wanted until I walked in the door. Everyone is friendly, and my co-workers are a true blessing to me. I take pride in doing my job to the best of my abilities and being a productive member of my new home town.” Sherry has not only impacted our Parks and Recreation Department professionally, but personally as well - she’s a pertinent member of our staff family and a genuine benefit to our community. Stop into the Recreation Center and say hi!
Ed Wegner first found Ocean View Cemetery through a SOLVE cemetery clean-up event he volunteered for in 2017. Inspired, he returned in 2018 for a pre-Memorial Day clean-up co-sponsored by the Parks Department and SOLVE. Despite being a resident of Aloha, Ed wanted to help assist the City of Astoria in caring for the grounds of the cemetery and become a regular volunteer, coming once or twice a month to remove invasive weeds, pick up trash, and generally neaten the site up. Ed’s efforts have been greatly appreciated by the Parks Department and he was recently awarded SOLVE’s Volunteer of the Year award for 2018, standing out in a field of over 30,000!
